The official star notes: a 15-second random window applies at the end of pre-open and at the Open transition. A 30-second random window applies at the start of Closing SPA. Opening SPA is a levelling/buffering period of at least 30 seconds. It commences no later than 09:59:15. The earliest transition from Opening SPA to continuous Open is 09:59:45. Do not flatten those jitter windows into a round 10:00 open.

How the cash market actually matches

Pre-open is order entry, not matching. Participants queue in price-time priority. ASX Trade does not match until the Opening SPA. The hours page says overnight and overseas trades may be reported until 09:45, Sydney time, under ASX Operating Rules. During Opening SPA, cancels are accepted; new entry and amendment are not. Then Open/Normal Trading runs continuous Price/Time matching until 16:00. ASX states that the majority of trades take place in that phase. That is a session-structure note, not a volume figure invented here.

Pre CSPA 16:00–16:10 stops continuous matching so the book can be prepared for the close. Closing SPA 16:10–16:11 calculates closing prices. Post Close 16:11–16:21:30 allows new and amended orders only at the CSPA price; other prices are rejected; ASX matches at that price. Trading halts are a separate rulebook problem. This page invents no halt counts and no VWAP prints. Pre-market trading in the U.S. sense is not ASX pre-open; do not paste an ET label onto 07:00 Sydney.

Adjust is ASX overnight, not U.S. overnight

ASX’s hours page says trading during the Adjust phase is referred to as overnight trading. That envelope is 16:21:30–18:50 Sydney time: Adjust 16:21:30–16:42, then Adjust ON 16:42–18:50. In Adjust, new orders cannot be entered and ASX Trade does not execute continuous matches; participants tidy the book; allowable trade reports follow the operating rules. That is not the U.S. planned 9:00 p.m.–4:00 a.m. ET overnight on NYSE Arca. U.S. exchange overnight is planned for 6 December 2026, not live. Do not map Arca overnight onto ASX Adjust. Do not map ASX Adjust onto a U.S. 23/5 tape. A broker overnight window is ATS access, not an ASX session, and this page names no brokers as venues.

After 18:50 the hours page lists purge orders, system maintenance, close, and a system-unavailable overnight batch. Those are operational session states, not a U.S.-style late book. IEX post-market ends 5:00 p.m. ET. Arca late runs to 8:00 p.m. ET. None of those U.S. clocks are ASX. Convert if you need overlap with HKEX or Toronto; do not rewrite Sydney times as Eastern. See the U.S. session hours 2026 hub for the 4:00 a.m. versus 7:00 a.m. ET split — that split is not an ASX fact. Cboe C1 equity-options GTH is TBA and is not this cash market.

The official cash-market trading calendar lists 24 December 2026 and 31 December 2026 as CLOSE EARLY. Footnotes: normal trading ceases at 14:10 (Sydney time). That is not a rewrite of the regular 16:00 cash close on other days, and it is not U.S. exchange overnight.

Founding, HQ, fees, and sizing

Founding year TODO:VERIFY. Headquarters TODO:VERIFY. Fees, access, and market-data charges TODO:VERIFY against the then-current ASX schedule. This profile invents no rebate, no tick table, no ADV, and no listing count. Example sizing only: account $10,000, 1 percent risk equals $100. If the stop is $1.50 away, shares = floor(100 ÷ 1.50) = 66, round down, on the risk calculator (crypto UI; treat the unit as shares). See dollar risk per share. PDT is not current law. The U.S. stock scanner at /stock-scanner is Coming soon — not live, no subscription price on this page.

This page is not a U.S. overnight tape, not a 4:00 a.m. ET early venue, not a broker-hours table, not a fee quote, and not personalized advice.

FAQ

What time does ASX start continuous matching?

Open/Normal Trading starts at 09:59:45 Sydney time, subject to the official 15-second random window. Pre-open from 07:00 is a queue, not matching. Opening SPA around 09:59 is the auction/levelling block before that Open stamp.

Is ASX Adjust the same as U.S. 9:00 p.m.–4:00 a.m. overnight?

No. ASX calls Adjust 16:21:30–18:50 Sydney time overnight trading. U.S. exchange overnight 9:00 p.m.–4:00 a.m. ET is a different planned session (6 December 2026, not live) and is not this cash market.

Why do the open and close jitter by seconds?

The official table marks random 15-second windows on pre-open and Open, and a random 30-second window on Closing SPA. Those are auction randomizations, not a reason to invent a round 10:00 or 16:00 print as the only clock.

Are ASX fees on this page?

No. Fees TODO:VERIFY. None invented. Check the then-current ASX fee schedule; do not copy an old PDF into a live quote.

Are these broker hours?

No. Official ASX cash-market phases only. Broker overnight access is ATS routing, not an ASX session, and this page names no brokers as venues.

Not financial advice. Trading stocks can result in loss of capital. Session times are from the ASX cash-market hours page as of 25 August 2026 and can change. Unknowns are marked TODO:VERIFY. Educational content from DennTech Trading Solutions.

Key Concepts for Australian Securities Exchange Users

Pre-Market & After-Hours Trading
Pre-market trading occurs before the official NYSE/NASDAQ open (9:30 AM ET) from 4:00-9:30 AM ET, and after-hours trading occurs from 4:00-8:00 PM ET after the close, both featuring lower liquidity, wider spreads, and price discovery driven primarily by earnings announcements and breaking news.
Circuit Breakers & Trading Halts
Circuit breakers are automatic, exchange-mandated trading pauses triggered when market prices decline by predetermined thresholds, while trading halts are discretionary or regulatory pauses in individual securities due to pending news, volatility, or technical issues.
VWAP (Stocks)
VWAP (Volume-Weighted Average Price) is the average price of a stock weighted by trading volume over a specified period, typically the current trading day, used by institutional traders as a benchmark for execution quality and by technical traders as a dynamic support and resistance level.
Level 2 Quotes
Level 2 quotes display the full depth of the order book for a stock — all outstanding bid and ask orders beyond the best inside bid and ask, showing the price and size of orders at multiple price levels across all market makers and electronic venues.
IPO — Initial Public Offering
An Initial Public Offering (IPO) is the process by which a private company first offers shares to the general public on a regulated stock exchange, raising capital and enabling founders, employees, and early investors to achieve liquidity for their ownership stakes.
