HKEX securities-market hours (times as printed; the hours page does not name a timezone): Pre-opening 9:00–9:30; Morning 9:30–12:00; Extended morning 12:00–13:00; Afternoon 13:00–16:00; Closing auction 16:00 to a random close 16:08–16:10. Half-days drop the lunch extension and the afternoon session. Founded 6 March 2000. HQ: 8/F, Two Exchange Square, 8 Connaught Place, Central, Hong Kong. Fees TODO:VERIFY.
Official HKEX securities clocks
Source: HKEX Securities Market Operations FAQ at hkex.com.hk (Global/Exchange/FAQ/Securities-Market/Trading/Securities-Market-Operations, English, fetched 25 August 2026). Trading is Monday to Friday except public holidays. The FAQ does not print a timezone name — do not invent HKT or UTC+8 as a printed stamp. Founded 6 March 2000 (Stock Exchange, Futures Exchange and HKSCC became wholly owned subsidiaries of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited). 1980 is SEHK incorporation, not HKEX founding. Headquarters: 8/F, Two Exchange Square, 8 Connaught Place, Central, Hong Kong. Do not invent a “Hong Kong, China” country line. The securities market runs on OTP-C (Orion Trading Platform – Securities Market).
| Session | Time as printed | Official note |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-opening Session | 9:00 am–9:30 am | Auction. POS sub-windows below. |
| Morning CTS | 9:30 am–12:00 noon | Continuous. Price then time. |
| Extended morning | 12:00 noon–1:00 pm | Full days only. None on named half-days. |
| Afternoon CTS | 1:00 pm–4:00 pm | Continuous. None on named half-days. |
| Closing Auction Session | 4:00 pm to random 4:08–4:10 pm | CAS. Random close inside that two-minute band. |
On the eves of Christmas, New Year, and Lunar New Year there is no Extended Morning Session and no Afternoon Session. Half-day CAS is 12:00–12:10. That half-day list is from the same FAQ. Do not invent other early-close dates here. A 2026 holiday circular exists as a PDF; this profile does not scrape it into extra clocks.
Pre-opening and closing auction internals
POS is a 30-minute auction before the morning continuous session. The FAQ splits it: Order Input 9:00–9:15 (at-auction and at-auction limit orders; amend/cancel allowed; ±15% of previous close on POS securities); No-cancellation 9:15–9:20 (new at-auction limits that aim to match must sit between the 9:15 best bid and ask; no amend/cancel); Random Matching 9:20 up to 9:22 (match starts randomly in that window); Blocking after matching until 9:30 (no entry, amend, or cancel). Matching uses order type (at-auction first), then price, then time, at the final Indicative Equilibrium Price. If no final IEP, no POS match.
CAS on a full day: Reference Price Fixing 16:00–16:01; Order Input 16:01–16:06; No-cancellation 16:06–16:08; Random Closing 16:08–16:10. The reference price is the median of five nominal-price snapshots in the last minute of continuous trading (15-second spacing from 15:59:00). CAS at-auction limits sit inside ±5% of that reference. After the random close, orders match at the final IEP; if no IEP, the reference price is used as the close. Half-day CAS uses the same four blocks starting at 12:00. Continuous-session matching is price then time. Trading halts are not a substitute for those auction rules. This page invents no VWAP and no turnover.
What this clock is not
HKEX 9:00 a.m. pre-opening is not U.S. pre-market trading. It is not IEX 8:00 a.m. ET, not NYSE Arca 4:00 a.m. ET, and not ASX 07:00 Sydney pre-open. Convert if you need overlap; do not paste Eastern labels onto the FAQ table. U.S. exchange overnight 9:00 p.m.–4:00 a.m. ET is planned for 6 December 2026, not live, and is not an HKEX session. A broker overnight window is ATS access, not this securities market, and this page names no brokers as venues. Cboe C1 equity-options GTH is TBA and is not OTP-C. See the U.S. session hours 2026 hub for the U.S. split only.
Board lot size is set by the issuer, per the FAQ — not a universal 100-share lot. Odd lots have a separate lot market and are not auto-matched in the board-lot book. Maximum order size on OTP-C is 3,000 board lots (FAQ). T+2 is the Exchange Participant versus clearing-house settlement clock; client versus broker settlement is a commercial agreement. None of that is a U.S. regular-hours rewrite. During continuous trading the FAQ says OTP-C accepts Limit, Enhanced Limit, and Special Limit orders only, with an optional All-or-Nothing qualifier. POS and CAS accept at-auction and at-auction limit orders only. Outstanding at-auction limits after POS may carry into continuous trading as limits if they pass the nine-times / one-ninth price check. That is order-type structure, not a fill guarantee and not a reason to size bigger.
Founding, HQ, fees, and sizing
Founded 6 March 2000. Headquarters as above. Trading fees, stamp, levies, CCASS charges, and whether a broker passes them on are TODO:VERIFY against the then-current HKEX fee pages. The FAQ points at fee tables; this profile copies no dollar or basis-point numbers. Example sizing only: account $10,000, 1 percent risk equals $100. If the stop is $1.50 away, shares = floor(100 ÷ 1.50) = 66, round down, on the risk calculator (crypto UI; treat the unit as shares). See dollar risk per share. PDT is not current law. The U.S. stock scanner at /stock-scanner is Coming soon — not live, no subscription price.
This page is not a U.S. overnight tape, not a broker-hours table, not a fee quote, and not personalized advice.
FAQ
When does HKEX continuous trading run on a full day?
Morning 9:30 a.m.–12:00 noon, extended morning 12:00 noon–1:00 p.m., afternoon 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m., times as printed. Pre-opening 9:00–9:30 is an auction, not continuous matching.
What happens on half-days?
On the eves of Christmas, New Year, and Lunar New Year there is no extended morning and no afternoon session. Closing auction is 12:00–12:10 with the same internal CAS blocks, starting at noon.
When does the closing auction actually end?
Random close between 4:08 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. on a full day (12:08–12:10 on a named half-day). Do not treat 4:00 p.m. as the CAS match time.
Are HKEX fees on this page?
No. Fees TODO:VERIFY. None invented. Check the then-current HKEX fee and levy pages; do not copy an old table into a live quote.
Are these broker hours?
No. Official HKEX securities-market FAQ hours only. Broker overnight access is ATS routing, not this market, and this page names no brokers as venues.
Not financial advice. Trading stocks can result in loss of capital. Session times are from the HKEX securities FAQ as of 25 August 2026 and can change. Unknowns are marked TODO:VERIFY. Educational content from DennTech Trading Solutions.
