Stock Exchange & Broker Guides

Guides for 23 stock exchanges and brokers from DennTech Trading Solutions. An exchange is a listing and matching venue. A broker is who you open an account with. They are not the same object.

U.S. NMS venues (NYSE, Nasdaq, Cboe, IEX and their families) run regular hours 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET. Pre-market and after-hours windows differ by venue. Broker overnight access is typically an ATS, not the exchange’s own overnight session. Educational only — not personalized investment advice.

Broker Brokers & Trading Platforms 7 guides

How to Read These Stock Guides

The venue you trade on and the broker you log into are different layers. An exchange lists symbols and matches orders. A broker holds your account, routes those orders, and applies margin. Mixing the two is how traders treat a mobile overnight window as “the NYSE is open” when they are actually on an ATS.

Exchange vs broker

Stock exchanges on this hub (NYSE, Nasdaq, Cboe, LSE, and the next venues we add) are listing and matching markets. U.S. national market system (NMS) exchanges are SROs. Pre-market and after-hours windows are venue-specific. OTC Markets / OTC Link is an ATS, not an NMS exchange and not an SRO. See the U.S. session hours 2026 page for the clock table. Overnight on NYSE Arca is still planned for December 6, 2026, not live. Cboe C1 equity-options global trading hours remain TBA.

Brokers (Interactive Brokers, Fidelity, Robinhood, Alpaca, and others on this hub) are where you open the account. Commission, PFOF versus agency routing, and overnight access are broker facts. Do not treat a broker fee table as an exchange fee table. Numbers not on an official schedule stay unmarked here rather than invented.

Session hours, not 24/7 crypto

U.S. regular trading hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern. Early and late sessions vary: IEX pre-market is 8:00–9:30 a.m. ET with post-market to 5:00 p.m. and no overnight; NYSE Arca early starts 4:00 a.m. ET; NYSE American early starts 7:00 a.m. ET. Halts and LULD apply in regular hours. Extended-hours prints are thinner and are not the same tape as RTH.

Sizing and post-PDT margin

The Pattern Day Trader 4-trade / $25,000 floor is historical (FINRA RN 26-10; Rule 4210(d)(2) effective June 4, 2026). Current operator language is a typical ~$2,000 equity minimum for a margin account (broker-dependent) plus intraday margin. Size from dollars of risk, not share-count folklore. Example: $10,000 account, 1% risk, ~$1.50 stop, 66 shares after rounding down. Work it on dollar risk per share and the risk calculator (crypto UI; treat the unit as shares, round down).

Educational only — not personalized investment advice. Pair these guides with the stock glossary, stock courses, and stock pulse. The optional U.S. stock scanner at /stock-scanner is coming soon, not a live desk.
